Genet Gebremariam Asgedom has spent more than a decade working on development projects in rural areas led by various international organizations. These have involved focusing on issues such as food security, livelihoods, rural agriculture, and youth and women empowerment. She recently joined the International Labour Organization in Addis Ababa as a monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management officer. There, she supports projects in the agribusiness sector, focusing on self-employment and job opportunities. As an AWARD Policy Fellow, Genet aims to acquire the relevant skills and knowledge to explore and create more opportunities for landless youth and women within agriculture.
During my field trips, I realized there was a lot to do to help our brothers and sisters who are short of jobs in rural areas. Fortunately, we also have the solution right here, in agriculture.
