Zemene Yohannes Ayalew
Ethiopia
2023
Zemene is determined to drive greater gender equality within agriculture through enhanced policies. She currently works as a researcher at the Policy Studies Institute in Ethiopia, where she collaborates closely with policymakers. With an academic background as a statistician, she has a clear understanding of the challenges women farmers face – including low ownership of land, livestock, and commercial farms. As an AWARD Policy Fellow, Zemene aims to address such issues and boost women’s empowerment. She also hopes to create new networks and learn from other Fellows to increase her chances of accessing research-funding opportunities.
Putting together my experience with the new skills I will get from this Fellowship will help me bring change for many women in rural areas.
Area of Focus
Policy advancement in access to finance, extension services and technology for rural women in agriculture to combat malnutrition.
