Thibault Kafoutchoni
Benin 2020
Thibault Kafoutchoni is a research assistant for the Laboratory of Applied Ecology of the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences at the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC) in Benin. He is also working on his PhD thesis in genetics and plant improvement at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the same university. His research is based on the pre-selection for genetic improvement of the Geocarpa groundnut, a neglected leguminous plant from West Africa. To date, he has (co-)published more than six scientific papers and received at least eight research and travel grants, including grants from the International Foundation for Science (IFS), CONNECTED Virus Network and the Rufford Small Grant for Nature Conservation. He is aiming to become a talented breeder and would ideally like to specialise in under-valued cultures in Benin.
To achieve this, he is constantly developing his skills in cutting-edge fields such as bioinformatics, molecular breeding, multispectral imaging for agriculture, as well as in leadership and personal development.
