Ethiopia 2020
Meseret Tesema Terfa is an Associate Professor at Hawassa University, College of Agriculture in Ethiopia. Terfa's research interest involves drought stress adaptation in crops. She is conducting multidisciplinary research that considers the multi-dimensional socio-economic, agro-ecological and agrobiodiversity that affect the food and nutrition security situation of smallholder farmers in Ethiopia.  She is exploring the plants' drought adaptation mechanisms at the cellular and molecular level to understand the underlying factors and how to impart that knowledge to smallholder farmers. Terfa has also engaged in various research collaborations in areas such as climate change, food security, intensive agriculture, and responsible resource utilization. Her research interests are community-based outcomes that drive sustainable solutions.
She aspires to forward research outputs which directly contribute to subsistent farming communities in Ethiopia either as a policy brief or as production manuals and become a tenured full professor in climate and agriculture science.
