Sofiane Boudalia
Algeria 2020
Sofiane Boudalia’s research work is based on transforming our food system, while addressing environmental issues, such as the conservation and redeployment of biodiversity to mitigate global warming. He also specialises in developing innovative solutions which enable farmers to return to land regeneration (pesticide-free) agriculture, developing sustainable agriculture, promoting the use of agricultural by-products and improving the nutritional properties of local products (dairy products).  To help promote food security and alleviate poverty, especially in remote areas, he is leading the Arimnet2-Bovisol (Breeding and management practices of indigenous bovine breeds: Solutions towards a sustainable future) project in Algeria. This programme aims to develop solutions which improve the sustainability of animal production systems for indigenous bovine breeds in the Mediterranean basin. It is clear that Africa cannot escape the impact and effects of climate change, such as erratic and unpredictable rainfall, increased flooding and, more importantly, prolonged periods of drought
He says that it is vital to develop skills through active networking in preparation for future challenges.
