Gerald's research interest is on viruses that cause acute febrile illnesses including mosquito-borne viral diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and Rift Valley fever; and transboundary animal diseases that affect the livelihood and food security especially peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and African swine fever. He employs genomics and metagenomics to study pathogen molecular epidemiology.
