For close to a decade African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) through its flagship initiative, the AWARD Fellowship, has equipped women agricultural scientists across sub-Saharan Africa to accelerate agricultural gains by strengthening their science and leadership skills. The AWARD Fellowship is a tailored career development program that focuses on fostering mentoring partnerships, building science skills, and developing leadership capacity.
Following the announcement of the expansion of AWARD Fellowship, which commences this year, we are delighted to announce the selection of 28 winners out of 633 applicants who expressed their interest. The 28 winners from 15 countries— including Ethiopia, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Fiji, Bangladesh, Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Togo, Madagascar and Burundi— who will participate in round 8 of the AWARD Fellowship, were selected following a highly competitive and rigorous process conducted between September and December 2017.
The selected fellows, of whom 12 are at post-masters level, 14 at post-doctoral, and 2 at post bachelors’, represent a diverse mix of agricultural research focus including agronomy, agricultural engineering, molecular biology, crop science, animal and livestock science, extension education and veterinary public health.
We look forward to a motivating phase with this group of highly talented women researchers from 21 agricultural research institutes.
The fellowship will commence with the mentoring orientation workshop to be held at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi from February 19 to 23, 2018. This first event of the fellowship will bring together the selected AWARD Fellows and their mentors; AWARD partners and key institutions supporting the fellowship program.
Congratulations to the new AWARD Fellows!
