Vice Chairperson of the AWARD Steering Committee joins the global network of Food Systems Champions

Dr Jemimah Njuki, a renowned Kenyan researcher in gender and agriculture, has been named as one of the champions of the United Nations Food Systems Summit. Dr Njuki is among 60 Food Systems Champions who will “work closely with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, Dr Agnes Kalibata, to kick start activities in the build-up to the Food Systems Summit” scheduled for 2021.

Dr Njuki is the Vice-Chairperson of the AWARD Steering Committee where she previously served as the chairperson and was instrumental in leading AWARD through the launch of a new ambitious strategy that saw AWARD expand in its mandate. Dr Njuki has also participated in the flagship AWARD Fellowship as a mentor in two of the nine rounds of the flagship AWARD Fellowship.

Dr Njuki is currently a Senior Program Specialist at Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and is set to join the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) as its incoming Director for Africa.
