Mineral fertilizers are too expensive for many smallholder farmers in Malawi. Dr. Austin Phiri tackles this by promoting affordable alternatives like inoculants to boost legume yields, using manure with small fertilizer doses, and practicing legume intercropping. As he enters the next phase of the One Planet Fellowship, Phiri credits his mentor for guiding his career and personal growth. He’s eager to pass on his knowledge to the next generation of scientists.
