First published on the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) website.

The status of women in agrifood systems in sub-Saharan Africa.
The full report on the Status of Women in Agrifood Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa is now out. The report presents new findings and data on women’s labor, food security, nutrition, and well-being across agrifood systems in the region. It also offers policy and investment recommendations to help close gender gaps and level the playing field across food production, processing, distribution, and consumption. The report builds on the earlier overview, providing deeper evidence and analysis of women’s contributions, roles, and progress toward closing gender gaps.
Developed by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Natural Resources Institute of the University of Greenwich (NRI), and African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), the report was launched on 16 April 2026 at the inaugural World Food Forum – Africa, held on the margins of the 34th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa.
