AWARD Attends Two International Events Coinciding with International Women’s Day

AWARD Director Vicki Wilde and two AWARD Fellows will participate in a briefing event for British MPs in London on March 7 in partnership with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Agriculture and Food for Development and Imperial College London. Coinciding with International Women’s Day, the event, entitled Effective Solutions for Agricultural Development through Empowered African Women Scientists, will feature presentations from eight panelists, including AWARD Fellows Dr. Sheila Ommeh and Christine Mukantwali.

Research area: Studying the impact of honeybee colony losses, managed colony population decline, varroa destructor infestation, and colony collapse disorder in rural communities in southwest Nigeria.
Tawina Jane Kopa-Kamanga, Chief irrigation officer (Irrigation and water management)
Mzuzu Irrigation Services Division Department of Irrigation, Malawi
Research area: Researching households’ knowledge and perceptions of water management in irrigation systems and looking at water user’s rights and women’s land rights and how they interface with irrigation water-management issues.
