Announcing the 2023 AWARD Leadership Series

In our commitment to our vision of robust, resilient, gender-responsive agri-food systems driving Africa’s inclusive prosperity, we recognize the need for transformative leadership equipped to unlock the potential of agricultural research and development. That is why we are excited to announce the 2023 AWARD leadership series designed for middle to senior-level male and female managers who want to strengthen their leadership skills. The leadership series is designed to build the core competencies required to transform and influence positive change in agricultural research and development. Participants will gain valuable insight into leadership, communication, conflict management, team building, negotiation, and decision-making skills, increasing their visibility and influence in their organizations.

About the 2023 leadership series

  1. Leadership Program for Agricultural Research and Development (LEPARD)

The LEPARD course for men and women is part of the AWARD Leadership Series designed to offer scientists, research personnel and decision-makers customized learning experiences that build aptitude and core leadership values such as people management, transparency, integrity and efficiency. Participants will also be equipped to identify and strategically use their personal leadership styles to enhance team engagement and productivity for organizational success.

Dates: October 9-13, 2023

Venue: Nairobi, Kenya

Cost: USD 2,500 per person, excluding flights, ground transportation, meals and accommodation.

  1. Enhancing Negotiation Skills for Women

The AWARD Enhancing Negotiation Skills for Women Course aims to empower women in leadership to identify the multiple negotiation opportunities and how they impact their work, career and personal success. The course targets women in leadership, including board members of national, regional and international AR4D organizations. Staff members from CGIAR and other international agricultural research organizations are encouraged to apply.

Dates: September 25-28, 2023

Venue: Mombasa, Kenya

Cost: USD 3,000 per person, excluding flights, ground transportation, meals and accommodation.

  1. Women’s Leadership and Management Course (WLMC)

The Women’s Leadership and Management Course (WLMC) enhances leadership and managerial effectiveness while providing a safe environment for candid conversations about women leaders’ challenges. The course targets women in senior leadership positions and national, regional, and international agricultural research and development organization boards. Women leaders in Donor Agencies and Partner organizations are also encouraged to apply.

Dates: October 22-28, 2023

Venue: Mombasa, Kenya

Cost: USD 3,500 per person, excluding flights, ground transportation, meals and accommodation.

  1. Leading From the Middle

This course provides a unique opportunity to up-skill middle-level professional staff, such as administrators and technical personnel, for effective leadership, service delivery and career growth. The course is designed for administrators and technical personnel who provide critical research, logistical and organizational support in national, regional and global Agricultural Research and Development organizations. The course is also ideal for staff transitioning from individual contributor roles to coordinative people and resource management roles.

Dates: November 6-24, 2023

Venue: Virtual

Cost: USD 2,000 per person.
