Tamala Mataka
Malawi
2024
Tamala’s role involves coordinating climate change projects at the Centre for Environmental Policy and Advocacy (CEPA), a policy institution that advocates for environmental sustainability. A key project she has worked on is complementing the Malawi government's efforts to attain action tracks in the National Pathway Report for Food Systems Transformation, developed after national and district-level dialogues. The report was released after the country participated in the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS).
I have previously focused on agriculture policies, but I have not narrowed down this experience to gender-responsive policies. I understand that taking a gender lens to development is crucial for the sustainability and empowerment of women and girls.
Area of Focus
Government input subsidy programs and waste-to-compost systems for soil fertility improvement and increased crop yields.
