Wanjala Stella is a lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya, with a strong focus on environmental conservation. She is also the Co-Founder of Women in Water and Natural Resources Conservation (WWANC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to integrating gender mainstreaming in environmental conservation, water management, and food security.  With extensive experience in gender-sensitive environmental conservation and watershed management through Nature-Based Solutions, Wanjala leads the “Yala River Water Fund”—the world’s first women-led water fund—funded by The Nature Conservancy. This initiative enhances water security while delivering environmental benefits, strengthening food security, and driving socio-economic progress.  Her expertise is developing community-centered, science-based, and culturally relevant strategies promoting gender inclusivity and social equity. Through her work, Wanjala champions participatory approaches that harness agrobiodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, and local knowledge to address climate change challenges effectively.
