Zilpher Agnes Nyakwara wants to distinguish herself as an exceptional scientist and leader who nurtures others. “I always wanted to be a teacher,” she reveals. Today, her work at KALRO enables her to fulfill that dream, as it involves teaching farmer groups and training fellow scientists—to ensure that the technologies they are developing address the needs of men, women, and youth. “It is my duty to see that regardless of their gender, farmers are aware of the technology and are using it,” she explains. “I also advise farmers on valueaddition, so that they avoid glut.” She is also involved in linking farmers to extension services and other stakeholders in production and supply chains.
