Sosina Bezu Chiksa
Ethiopia 2011
Growing up as one of seven children, Sosina Bezu Chiksa profited from her uncommonly supportive and encouraging father, who wanted a higher education for all his daughters, resulting in the girls going to university, while the boys chose careers in business. Married with three children, Chiksa managed to combine a career and motherhood with a supportive husband who accompanied her to Norway during her master’s and PhD studies.
My studies have shown that FFW protects poor farmers from harmful coping strategies during drought and helps them invest back into their farms, contrary to some literature that says that farmers get lazy and do not work hard when involved in FFW programs, says Chiksa
Field of Research
The impact of environmental degradation on labor markets for rural women in Ethiopia, particularly to what extent environmental degradation affects women’s participation in off-farm employment and girls’ participation and performance at school.
