Marta Celeste Francisco is committed to working with rural women and hopes to help improve their livelihoods by developing agricultural knowledge and information systems that will increase food security in Mozambique.
Born in Maputo into a family of eight children, Francisco was the first in her family to go to university. Before attaining a BSc in Veterinary Medicine, she spent 22 years as a secondary school science teacher. She hopes to continue in a master’s program focused on development, agricultural information, and communication.
This is an excellent opportunity for me to use my skills as a teacher,” she says. “I compile data for agricultural extension workers, and then work with them to use this information to improve farmers’ production.
