Juliet Chicopela Mataa
Zambia 2013
Juliet Chicopela Mataa, following the advice of her father, a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture in Zambia, began her post-secondary education enrolled in a diploma course in agriculture. However, by the time she entered university to pursue a bachelor’s degree, she had decided instead to focus on small-scale farmers, and chose to study social work at the University of Zambia.
I saw an opportunity to work directly with the farmers, connecting them to agronomists and plant breeders,” she explains.
Field of Research
Evaluation, promotion, and dissemination of improved maize and bean varieties to improve food security among small-scale farmers.
