Masterclass: From Gender-Responsive to Gender Transformative Research

Gender-responsive research is essential for producing knowledge that not only identifies gender disparities but also contributes to equity, inclusion, and transformative change across development, agricultural, environmental, and social research. As the complexity of development challenges increases, researchers require advanced competencies to move beyond gender-sensitive approaches toward gender-responsive and gender-transformative research design, implementation, and analysis.

This Master Class provides emerging African scientists with practical tools to distinguish between gender-responsive and gender-transformative research. Using real examples and case studies, participants will enhance critical thinking, reflect on their roles as researchers, and learn effective methods to integrate gender into research design, implementation, and analysis.

Tailored for the third cohort of the AWARD Leadership Program for Emerging African Women in Agricultural Science, the session will bring together young scientists, mentors, and AWARD alumni for shared learning and exchange. The aim is to prepare participants to lead and advance gender integration in agricultural research and development
