Women as the Engine of Agriculture in Africa

Three AWARD Fellows gave thrilling speeches on Tuesday, June 18 at the prestigious IFAMA Forum in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.  The conference, entitled The Road to 2050: The Talent Factor, drew up to 400 leading agribusiness experts from around the world.

Elizabeth Bandason, Sarah Mayanja, and Adey Melesse Yalew hosted a panel session on “Women as the Engine of Agriculture in Africa.” Although women are the majority of those who produce, process, and market the continent’s food, only one in four agricultural researchers in Africa is female, and only one in seven holds a leadership position. AWARD is changing that scenario, as demonstrated by the success of these emerging women leaders.
