Accelerating African Women’s Leadership in Climate Action

The AWARD Climate Action (ACA) Fellowship seeks to achieve a twin goal of increasing the number of African women leading climate change action and catalyze production of climate solutions that work for women smallholders.

The Fellowship is designed to address systemic gender inequalities and build the leadership and technical capacity of African women to lead the design and implementation of inclusive climate solutions. Fellows will be drawn from diverse institutions, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, research institutions, academia, civil society, and the private sector.

In this second cohort, the Fellowship targets high-potential African women from Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, and Senegal who are actively working in the field of climate change adaptation and are passionate about developing contextually relevant, gender-equitable interventions.

The ACA Fellowship, inspired by the AWARD Fellowship model, is a non-residential, capacity-building program. Selected candidates will undergo an intensive, one-year career acceleration process, including leadership development, gender integration training, mentorship, and peer-to-peer learning. Fellows will also conceptualize and implement mini collaborative Climate Research and Innovation Projects (CRIPs) to apply their learning in real-world contexts.

Successful candidates will become AWARD Climate Fellows, gaining access to a pan-African network of peers, mentors, and institutions working to catalyze gender-transformative change in climate adaptation and policy.

Accélérer le leadership des femmes africaines pour l’action climatique

Le Programme d’AWARD sur l’action climatique (ACA) poursuit un double objectif : accroître le nombre de femmes africaines leaders dans la lutte contre le changement climatique et catalyser la production de solutions climatiques adaptées aux besoins des petites exploitations agricoles.

Ce programme a été conçu pour répondre aux inégalités systémiques entre les sexes et renforcer les capacités de leadership et les compétences techniques des femmes africaines afin qu’elles puissent concevoir et mettre en œuvre des solutions climatiques inclusives. Les participantes seront issues d’institutions diverses, notamment des agences gouvernementales, des organisations non gouvernementales, des instituts de recherche, du monde universitaire, de la société civile et du secteur privé.

Pour cette deuxième cohorte, le programme cible des femmes africaines originaires du Bénin, Cameroun, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi et Sénégal, engagées dans la problématique de l’adaptation au changement climatique et passionnées par le développement d’interventions pertinentes, équitables en matière de genre et adaptées aux contextes locaux.

Inspiré du modèle d’AWARD, le programme ACA est non résidentiel et s’articule autour du renforcement des capacités. Les candidates sélectionnées suivront un parcours intensif d’un an visant à accélérer leur carrière, comprenant le développement du leadership, la formation à l’intégration du genre, le mentorat et l’apprentissage entre pairs. Les participantes concevront et mettront également en œuvre de mini Projets Collaboratifs de Recherche et d’Innovation Climatique (CRIPs) afin d’appliquer leurs apprentissages dans des contextes concrets.

Les candidates retenues deviendront des Lauréates AWARD pour le Climat, rejoignant ainsi un réseau panafricain de pairs, de mentors et d’institutions œuvrant pour un changement transformateur en matière de genre dans l’adaptation au changement climatique et les politiques y afférentes.

La date limite de dépôt des candidatures est fixée au 30 juin 2025 à minuit (heure de l’Afrique de l’Est – GMT+3).
