AWARD Director Nominated for Prestigious Continent-wide Prize

Dr. Wanjiru Kamau-Rutenberg has been selected as a finalist in the competition, Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government. Some 250 leading women from 27 countries were nominated in several categories. The 20 Kenyan finalists will be honored on August 9, 2014 in Nairobi, and the all-Africa winners will be named during a gala event on October 30, 2014 in South Africa.

The awards, organized by South Africa-based CEO Communications, are designed to uplift and recognize women across Africa, providing a platform to celebrate their achievements while paying tribute to women who consistently exercise a positive influence on the continent.

“I’m thrilled to be among such inspiring company for this honor, which recognizes the critical role of African women’s leadership in securing Africa’s prosperity,” says Kamau-Rutenberg. “I’m also proud to represent AWARD and the many African women agricultural scientists who are helping smallholder farmers—most of whom are women—to feed this continent. At AWARD, we believe that one of the most effective ways to move people from poverty to prosperity is to invest in their agriculture.”
