AWARD Alumni in Uganda Talk About Ideas for Achieving an Effective National Network

On October 19th 2015, Ugandan AWARD Fellows, mentors and fellow mentees gathered to develop objectives and activities to be undertaken by Ugandan Women in Agricultural Research and Development (UGAWARD), the Ugandan country chapter of AWARD.

The meeting began with Raymond Brandes, the AWARD Deputy Director Learning and Outreach, welcoming the members present. As in all recently held AWARD alumni country meetings, Brandes reiterated the fact that AWARD fully supports the initiation and development of country networks, and in particular, formulation of objectives and achievable goals for these networks. During the 2015 Regional Progress Monitoring Meetings (RPMM), AWARD introduced and facilitated the initial rounds of these country meetings, a task that was then handed over to an AWARD Fellow, Gloria Mbabazi, who was appointed the UGAWARD representative.

An interim committee was then selected to identify an agency that is willing to host the network, and also agreed to organize a social event for all UGAWARD alumni, and officially launch UGAWARD on November 21, 2015 where they will elect the formal committee and deliberate on guiding principles and future activities concretely.
