AWARD at CSW70: Nurturing the Next Generation of African Women Leaders: Prospects, Priorities and Promises
Start Date : 09 March,2026

Nurturing the Next Generation of African Women Leaders: Prospects, Priorities and Promises

How can we sustain the momentum on increasing the numbers and experiences of women leading climate action?

Despite a growing momentum on the need to pay attention to the gross underrepresentation of women in science and its leadership, gender disparities remain stubborn. This event will discuss trends, strategies and opportunities for plugging the gender gaps. Discussions will be anchored on new evidence and how other efforts such as Commit to Grow Equality are responding to the realities of the persisting gender gaps. Aligned with CSW70 review theme on ‘women’s full and effective participation and decision making in public life’ this event will demonstrate how to sustain efforts towards ensuring that a diversity of women access and stay in leadership of agrifood systems. In the context of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, this event will also spotlight strategies for sustaining women’s participation in climate resilient agrifood systems beyond their role as producers.
