An Afternoon of Inspiring Stories of African Researchers
Start Date : 26 May,2022
End Date : 26 May,2022
Country : Kenya

On May 26, 2022, AWARD hosted an afternoon of storytelling at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi. Featuring African researchers developing solutions to improve smallholders’ productivity, the storytelling event spotlighted Laureate Candidates participating in the One Planet Fellowship. Through the One Planet Fellowship, AWARD is building a robust pipeline of African researchers leading climate change research on the continent.

Announced at the inaugural One Planet Summit in Paris in 2017, the One Planet Fellowship launched its first cohort in 2019 and has to date admitted 130 young African researchers, from 14 African countries, into the innovative career development program.

With stories ranging from an associate professor’s childhood journey that led to her love for science, to a food technology expert whose quest for food security in her home country fuels her research on reducing post-harvest losses, these researchers shared their personal stories of working to secure a promising, prosperous future for Africa.

Together with France’s Agropolis Foundation, AWARD is implementing the One Planet Fellowship funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), BNP Paribas Foundation, the European Union, and Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
