Geospatial Expert
Ethiopia
2025
Nigat Bilate is applying data science to address soil salinity and land degradation while promoting climate-resilient agrifood systems in Ethiopia. She integrates geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and machine learning to generate evidence-based insights for soil and land management. Her work assesses soil physicochemical properties, irrigation suitability, and environmental risks to recommend soil amendments and salt-tolerant crops. By promoting digital mapping, modeling, and restoration of degraded soils, she is supporting sustainable land management and enhanced agricultural productivity in vulnerable Ethiopian landscapes.
