Mkandawire Rachel Isabel holds a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Pretoria with over 15 years of agricultural research experience, focusing on food security, climate adaptation, and participatory farmer-driven research. As a Policy and Research Officer at the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN), Mkandawire contributes to key initiatives, including FoSTA-Health and CEA-FIRST, driving efforts to enhance climate resilience through a food systems approach. Her expertise spans Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia, where she works on integrating climate-smart strategies into policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement to bolster regional agricultural resilience. She is passionate about science, development policy, and communication and is an avid writer in these fields.
Mkandawire's work includes crafting policy briefs, conducting disaster resilience planning, and engaging in high-level policy dialogues to support sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems in Southern Africa.
