Gatere Lydiah is a seasoned research and development expert specializing in climate-resilient agriculture. Her expertise encompasses soil and plant health, food security, poverty alleviation, biodiversity conservation, capacity development, gender in agriculture, and technology innovation. With a strong background in academia, she has contributed to conservation agriculture and developed “SoilDoc”, a soil diagnostic system. She has also worked with the United Nations on sustainable soil management, including soil recarbonization and the Soil Doctors program, as well as gender and climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices. Additionally, her work with CGIAR has focused on gender dynamics in the coffee and tomato value chains, multifunctional landscapes, and oil palm processing. Gatere holds a Ph.D. in Soil Biogeochemistry, Fertility, and Nutrition from Cornell University, USA. Currently, her research focuses on climate change impact and the design of landscapes that balance global environmental benefits, food security, and socio-economic well-being. She employs a community-centered, science-based approach that integrates cultural relevance, gender sensitivity, and social inclusion to promote agrobiodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, and sustainable climate solutions.
Her work focuses on climate change impact assessments and designing landscapes that balance environmental benefits, food security, and socio-economic outcomes.
