Naomi Kemunto Peter
PhD Student
Kenya
2025
Naomi Kemunto Peter’s work focuses on addressing antimicrobial resistance in poultry production systems in Kenya through data-driven approaches. As a PhD candidate, she leads a longitudinal study of 70 semi-intensive broiler farms, quantifying antibiotic use, identifying the drivers, and pinpointing opportunities for intervention to promote responsible practices. She designs digital data collection systems using Open Data Kit to compute usage indicators and model associations with biosecurity and disease occurrence. By integrating veterinary epidemiology and data science, her work generates evidence for antimicrobial stewardship, informs policy, and strengthens data-informed decision-making for sustainable, climate-resilient, and health-conscious livestock systems.
