AWARD Master Class: Building One’s Visibility as a Young Scientist

In today’s competitive research and innovation landscape, visibility is a critical asset for scientists. It means not only being seen but also heard, recognized, and valued in academic, policy, and public spheres. It affects the recognition of research grants, internship and job applications, collaborations, public outreach, job offers, and media coverage.

Despite their significant contributions, many African women scientists remain underrepresented in global scientific discourse. Structural barriers, limited access to platforms, and cultural norms often hinder their ability to showcase their work and leadership. As a result, their research impact and professional growth may be constrained, not due to a lack of merit, but rather due to a lack of visibility.

This masterclass aims to provide participants with practical insights and actionable strategies on how to develop and sustain visibility in their scientific careers intentionally and amplify their scientific voice as thought leaders in the agricultural space.
