Sorghum is a traditionally high-value crop that is also an important staple cereal for over 30 African countries. Despite its rich properties, its production has been fairly low among farmers. Scientists like Molly Okoth, a 2021 One Planet Laureate Candidate working with CIMMYT, are introducing new sorghum varieties to smallholder farmers in semi-arid Kenya to strengthen their resilience to climate change. She also empowers the farmers through training to increase their yields.
