2023
An Agricultural Engineer, Volatiana Razafindratoanina is the Coordinator of the World Bank's RICE PLUS program in Madagascar. The program focuses on the rice sector with the objective to increase the productivity and resilience of rural livelihoods and food systems in the Sofia Region in the north, and the Alaotra Mangoro Region in the east of the country. Volatiana is also interested in issues related to gender, particularly in rural areas. She is excited to be able to consolidate her knowledge of policy advocacy through the AWARD Policy Fellowship.
Gender issues are important to me. The autonomy of women in rural areas, who represent 60% of the population, is a means to combat inequality and vulnerability.
