Andrea Johnson is a program officer in Carnegie Corporation of New York's International Program, working with the Higher Education and Research in Africa and the Peacebuilding in Africa teams. In higher education, she oversees the strategy to develop and retain a new generation of African academics.?In peacebuilding, she collaborates on a strategy to expand the pool of African peacebuilding scholars and to connect them to international scholarly and policy communities. She previously developed and implemented strategies to enhance women’s opportunities and gender equity in African higher education. Johnson served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Ecuador, was a Columbia University human rights fellow based at Mozambique’s Ministry of Justice and is a trained community organizer. She co-founded the Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group in 2000 and chaired its steering committee from 2004 until 2013. She has degrees in economics and international affairs and has undertaken doctoral work in public administration.
