Juliet Furaha Karisa is a Senior Marine Research Scientist at the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) with over 15 years of expertise in coral reef ecology, restoration, and conservation. She researches reef resilience under climate change, leading studies on coral monitoring, habitat mapping, and ocean accounts to inform adaptive management and policy in Kenya and the Western Indian Ocean. Passionate about inclusive conservation, she champions community-led reef restoration, empowering women, youth, and coastal fishers to build sustainable livelihoods. As co-chair of the ICRI Coral Reef Restoration Committee, she bridges science, policy, and local knowledge for resilient oceans.
