One of the keys to improving livelihoods in sub-Saharan Africa is to build and sustain a strong, effective talent pool for the delivery of agricultural R&D. This requires fostering the capacity of individuals while strengthening the research and development systems.
AWARD offers a portfolio of resources to strengthen science competence while broadening horizons. With variations by discipline and career level, AWARD’s science cornerstone provides fellows with:
- membership in a professional association of choice
- training in science writing and presentation skills
- training in writing research proposals for funding
- support to attend a science conference of choice
- the option to compete for advanced science training with world-class agricultural R&D institutions for three to nine months
This cornerstone expands the world of science to AWARD Fellows, easing their access to the latest methodologies and technologies while building their skills and professional networks. In turn, it brings the groundbreaking work of African women to the national, regional and global stages, where it is much needed.
